About Lupus Foundation Of America Inc

Lupus can turn appointments, prescriptions, and even getting a diagnosis into a full-time problem. The Texas Gulf Coast Chapter meets people there with referrals, appointment support, direct patient advocacy, education, and the PATH grant program for eligible patients who need help with medical costs. It also supports children, families, community health workers, healthcare professionals, and research toward a cure, so help reaches people at several points in the lupus journey.

What stands out here is how closely the chapter stays with people affected by lupus, from education and advocacy to support groups and financial assistance. It also works with clinics, health departments, and legislators to help improve diagnosis and access to care across the Texas Gulf Coast.

A patient diagnosed in 1993 learns to manage lupus day by day

A person describes being diagnosed in March 1993 after living with symptoms for about a month before confirmation. They say their lifestyle changed after diagnosis and encourage others to take care of themselves, change their diet, and seek help.

A walker with lupus shares hope for the future

A participant in Walk to End Lupus Now says they walk because they believe lupus will one day be a thing of the past. They share that lupus has affected their lungs and that they are remaining hopeful while relying on family support.

I walk to end lupus because I know that one day Lupus be a thing of the past. I was diagnosed with Lupus in 2018. Lupus since has attacked my lungs. I am in need of a lung transplant. I’m remaining hopeful and thankful for life each and everyday. I’m also thankful for my mom and two sons for supporting me through this journey.

A patient uses self-advocacy to live with lupus

A person says they learned their triggers, how to manage stress, and how to listen to their body. They also say they now prioritize their health so they can keep doing the things they love and care for the people who depend on them.

I have learned my triggers, how to manage my stress, and listen to the needs of my body. I’ve also learned to prioritize my health in order to be able to do the things I love and take care of the people in my life that depend on me.
