About Midamerica Boston Terrier Rescue

MidAmerica Boston Terrier Rescue takes in Boston Terriers and Boston mixes that have been surrendered, abandoned, neglected, or left in danger, then puts them into foster care where they can get medical attention and a real chance at placement. It’s the kind of rescue that meets dogs wherever they are, whether they need rehabilitation, palliative care, or just time to settle in. For donors, the appeal is simple, the work is specific, and the impact is very real: safe homes for dogs that might otherwise have nowhere else to go.

This is a Boston Terrier-specific rescue, but it does not limit itself by age or condition. Its reach spans 13 states, and the work is done by volunteers and funded by donations, with foster care, transport, and palliative support all part of the same rescue path.

Origin

Our story

For the community

Need help?

How someone in need can access Midamerica Boston Terrier Rescue’s services.

People seeking to adopt complete an online application, then the foster parent reviews it, a phone interview is conducted, a home visit and reference check are completed, and transportation is arranged. People needing to rehome a Boston Terrier or Boston mix complete a surrender form, provide vet records, and the dog enters foster care for health, personality, and behavior evaluation before placement.

Impact in person

Stories

The people behind the work.

Walter finds a home through MABTR

After the abrupt death of a family dog, the family applied for a Boston Terrier and received a 12-week-old puppy in need of a home. They spent the summer helping him adjust, learning leash walking, potty training, and puppy routines, and later described him as a perfect addition to their family.

We couldn't be more happy with our MABTR adoption.

Mosley enters palliative care

At age 13, Mosley came into MABTR care deaf and with severe dry eye after his owner moved overseas. Because of his special needs, the rescue placed him in its palliative care program so he could stay comfortable and monitored as his condition changed.

Volunteers describe fostering and transport work

MABTR volunteers describe fostering, dog-sitting, transport, and home visits as part of helping dogs move from rescue care to permanent homes. One volunteer family said they have fostered and transported dogs, and another described the work as seeing dogs go from scared to confident and playful.

It’s so worth the effort.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about this nonprofit and how its work happens.

What kinds of Boston Terriers does MABTR take in?

MABTR takes in Boston Terriers and Boston mixes of any age, gender, and physical or mental condition, including dogs that are surrendered, homeless, stray, mistreated, neglected, at risk of euthanasia, or released from puppy mills.

How long do foster dogs usually stay with MABTR foster families?

MABTR says foster dogs usually stay in care about three to four weeks, though that can change depending on the dog’s condition and how many applicants fit the dog’s needs.

What does MABTR provide before adoption?

Before adoption, MABTR provides complete medical care, behavior evaluation, and microchipping. The rescue also includes spaying or neutering, vaccines, heartworm testing, and any other needed medical care as part of the process.

What does the palliative care program provide?

The palliative care program gives dogs with terminal or incurable medical conditions a loving place to stay, along with food, a crate, help with costs, and pain-free support.

How does the rehoming process work?

The owner signs surrender paperwork and provides current vet records, then the dog goes into foster care rather than a facility or shelter. From there, MABTR can evaluate the dog’s health, personality, and behavior before placement.
