About Orphan Shade Inc
In rural southern Malawi, Orphan Shade gives double orphan girls a place to grow up that feels like home, not an institution. Small family homes provide volunteer parents, regular meals, schooling, tutoring, hygiene supplies, medical care, and support from local churches. Children remain connected to extended family, village life, and local culture while receiving the care and stability they need.

Build a family home
Construct and furnish three-bedroom family homes in rural Malawian villages for approximately eight children, two parents, and one guest. Homes are designed for local conditions and are built with support from local partners.
Raise orphans
Provide double orphans with volunteer parents, a family home, regular meals, clothing, hygiene supplies, school attendance, tutoring, medical care, and spiritual guidance.
Kulera Mwana, Adopt a Child
Connect each Orphan Shade child with an adult who prays regularly for the child and may write letters, send one small gift per year, and provide optional monthly support.
Equip the local church
Support local village churches through teaching, preaching, and the provision of Chichewa-language Bibles. Local pastors oversee the homes and children.
Education and tutoring
Enroll children in local government schools and supplement their education with after-school learning led by tutors.
Child counseling and attachment support
Provide counseling, trauma-informed support, and adult-child mentoring relationships to help children develop trust-based relationships.
Creative arts
Provide creative arts activities for children in the foster homes.
Disaster relief food assistance
Through the partner church, provide food to families affected by disasters such as Cyclone Freddy.
About this work
Mission
Care for and raise double orphans in Malawi by building family homes in rural villages, providing volunteer parents and connecting children with their extended families, local communities, and churches.
Who they serve
Double orphan girls in rural tribal villages in southern Malawi, including children whose parents have both died or who have been abandoned. The homes are designed for approximately six to eight children each.
Their impact
- Eight orphan girls were rescued in Pangeti village in late 2021.
- Homes #1 and #2 were completed, with Home #1 operating with a family.
- More than 300 people received Jesus during the Pangeti home opening week in 2021.
- All eight girls in the Mdeka family passed and were ranked in a school term ending in July.
- Rosa was advanced from Standard 1 to Standard 3 and ranked first in her school year.
- In a 2026 comparison of trauma-screen data for 23 girls, the organization reported increased Never/Rarely responses for feeling alone, trouble sleeping, and physical reactions to traumatic events.
