Overview

About Street Youth Ministry Of Austin

Street Youth Ministry of Austin meets young adults where they are, with food, clothing, supplies, laundry support, and a weekday day center in North Central Austin. But the real point is the guidance and relationship-based support underneath it, because the goal is stability, sobriety, and a stronger day-to-day life. If you care about young adults who are trying to get steady again, this is the kind of help that starts with immediate needs and keeps going from there.

What stands out here is how closely the ministry stays tied to young adults, especially those 28 and under. The work happens through familiar places, small daily support groups, and a trained team with lived experience, so the support feels personal rather than distant. There is also practical follow-through, food, clothing, supplies, and laundry, which matters when the basics are what stand between someone and a next step.

Origin

Our story

Street Youth Ministry of Austin began with pop-up events in borrowed facilities, then grew into a ministry that completed its first year in a newly rented facility in north central Austin in 2024. Before that, it spent six years renting space near the University of Texas and continued twice-weekly truck-based outreach in its old neighborhood, along with outreach in San Marcos.

Impact in person

Stories

The people behind the work.

A path toward sobriety and healing

A young adult described finding support and friendship through the ministry while working toward sobriety and healing.

AW: The way my life has changed in such little time because I'm doing better for myself. A year ago, I thought I had no one and that nobody would ever care about me. Today I have such awesome friends who support me on my path to sobriety and healing.

Food support that made a difference

A client thanked the team for a food bag that made it possible to cook real food in a few days.

Dan: Could you tell the people that put the food bag together thank you for me. It looks like fantastic stuff. I'm going to be able to cook actual food in a few days!!!

Family restoration

A participant connected the ministry's support with restored family relationships and a meaningful weekend with family.

Heather: I just had an amazing weekend with my parents and brother, and I was reminded of something from when I first started going to SYM. Mine was restoration of the relationships with my family. God did it. The seeds you planted have produced fruit and I wanted to thank you

An age-specific place to belong

A young adult said the age limit was important because it offered a setting different from older homeless populations.

KJ: What attracted me is the age limit. I'm tired of being surrounded by older homeless people.

Help during a milestone for a parent and child

A participant said the ministry helped with a milestone involving a baby.

Margarita: Terry Cole, I love Street Youth Ministry, helped me every step also, to fight for my baby milestone. Without y'all wouldn't have been possible.
