About Uplift Community Development
A student may need weekly help with schoolwork, while an adult in the same family may be preparing for the GED, learning English, or building job skills. Uplift Community Development supports families in crisis and living below the poverty line through tutoring, mentoring, education, employment assistance, and short-term help with essentials such as food and clothing. Your gift helps make room for both immediate relief and longer-term progress, family by family.
Uplift stays with the whole family’s needs. Students ages 4 to 18 can receive tutoring and mentoring through area-school partnerships, while adults can access GED preparation, English classes, health awareness education, and job training. Its family-centered, faith-based approach also includes practical support during times of crisis.
Programs

Tutoring and mentoring
Educational support for youth ages 4 to 18, provided through partnerships with area schools. Tutors and mentors work with children in all grade levels.
Mentoring Program
Mentors meet with students for one hour each week, either one-to-one or in groups. Activities include schoolwork, attending events, eating lunch together, and setting and tracking personal and academic goals.
Tutoring Program
Focused learning for students in grades 5 through 8, designed to support academic and life success, independent learning, self-esteem, and personal education goals.
GED preparation
Classes for adults preparing for the GED.
English as a Second Language
English language classes for adults.
Health awareness education
Classes addressing health awareness issues for adults.
Job training and life skills
Training that includes life skills development, conflict resolution, etiquette, financial management, resume development, and computer literacy.
Family encouragement and basic-needs support
Short-term assistance for families in crisis, including food, clothing, Thanksgiving baskets, Christmas gifts, and other necessities.
Pastoral training
Training intended to help others provide community support.
