About Alamo Area Search and Rescue
Since June 2008, Alamo Area Search and Rescue has responded to more than 375 search missions across 18 Texas counties, providing free support to more than 30 public safety agencies. Its all-volunteer team helps with lost or missing-person searches, water recovery, wilderness operations, and other search and rescue needs. Donor support helps sustain the training behind that response, with search specialists spending an average of 15 hours each week building their skills.
Alamo Area Search and Rescue gives Texas public safety agencies access to certified human and canine search and rescue resources at no charge. Its canine teams are trained for human-remains detection, wilderness air scent, trailing, and water recovery, while human specialists support navigation, communications, tracking, first aid, and search management.

Human Remains Detection
Human Remains Detection K9 teams locate the odor of human decomposition, including buried, scattered, or trace remains, in urban and wilderness environments.
Wilderness Air Scent
Wilderness Air Scent K9 teams search for any person within a designated area, including difficult terrain, heavy brush, and nighttime conditions.
Trailing
Trailing K9 teams use a scent article from a person's last known location to determine direction of travel and locate the person in wilderness or urban areas.
Water Recovery
K9 teams with additional water-recovery training locate victims of drownings and floods from boats, kayaks, or shorelines.
Mantracking
Mantracking uses footprints, disturbed vegetation, and other signs to locate and follow human movements.
Ground Support and Wilderness Search
Wilderness Search Specialists provide land navigation, GPS, communications, tracking, crime-scene preservation, first aid, HAZMAT awareness, knots, search management, and incident-management support.
