Overview

About Boise Youth Amateur Hockey

Boise Youth Amateur Hockey gives youth players in Boise and the Treasure Valley a place to test themselves in competitive travel hockey without losing sight of the bigger picture. Through the Jr. Steelheads, players get structured coaching, purposeful training, scholarship support, and sports medicine help that can carry into real life, not just the rink. It is a good fit for families who want hockey to build skill, confidence, and teamwork at the same time.

What sets Boise Youth Amateur Hockey apart is the way it supports players beyond the scoreboard. Alongside competitive travel hockey, it offers a female hockey pathway, scholarship help for qualified players, and a sports medicine partnership that supports injury tracking and return-to-play decisions.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about this nonprofit and how its work happens.

Who can register for Jr. Steelheads tryouts?

Players need to register during the tryout window and complete USA Hockey registration for the upcoming season. A valid USA Hockey confirmation number is required when registering.

What does the scholarship program provide?

The scholarship program provides financial assistance as a credit to a player’s BYAHA account for those who qualify. It does not cover all expenses, and it cannot be used for player travel expenses.

What is the Healthy Rosters Program used for?

It creates a secure electronic medical profile for an athlete, including injury and concussion history, emergency contact information, and support for safer return-to-play decisions.

How can families get sports medicine help during the season?

Certified athletic trainers from Saint Alphonsus can help with concussion guidance and related injuries during the season. Families can call the Ask an ATC line at 208-367-3761.

How does the 14U Girls Hockey program approach competition?

The program is competitive, but it is built around development too. It aims for regional play in female-specific leagues, while leaving room for players to keep skating on co-ed teams when those opportunities are available.
