About Lost Pets Of Omaha Area

Lost Pets of Omaha Area helps with the anxious, practical middle of a pet loss: the post, the sightings, the scan, the trap, the next step. Through free support for lost, found, wandering, and deceased pet reports, it gives pet owners and finders a clear place to turn when time matters. Donors help keep those tools available, from live moderator help to trail cameras, drone searches, signage guidance, and low-cost microchipping.

What sets Lost Pets of Omaha Area apart is how hands-on the help gets after the post goes up. Volunteers can lend traps, check pets for microchips, use trail cameras, and even deploy a thermal imaging drone when conditions and safety allow, all with services offered free of charge.

Origin

Our story

This started with one lost dog and one person willing to help. In July 2013, Cathy saw a lost dog, posted about it on Craigslist, and helped connect the dog’s owner, who was an over-the-road trucker and had to keep traveling, with leads, posters, and searches. By February 2014, she had set up a Facebook page for lost, found, and wandering pets, and that work grew into a volunteer-run search and reunion network.

For the community

Need help?

How someone in need can access Lost Pets Of Omaha Area’s services.

Use Facebook Messenger through the contact page to request a LOST, FOUND, WANDERING, or DECEASED post. Moderators will guide the submission, and people with found pets can also request a volunteer microchip scan when available. The organization also directs people to file reports with the Nebraska Humane Society or, in Iowa cases, the Midlands Humane Society.

Impact in person

Stories

The people behind the work.

Kuzik and the start of the organization

A lost dog named Kuzik led Cathy to coordinate leads, posters, and searches for an over-the-road trucker who had to continue traveling. That search became the basis for Lost Pets of Omaha Area.

Toby the Cat reunited after 3 months

A gray tabby cat was found months after going missing, and a volunteer scanner confirmed the microchip, reconnecting the cat with its owner.

Ryleigh survives below-zero weather

A boxer dog that escaped during a stop in Missouri Valley, Iowa, was located with a drone, trapped, and reunited after days of searching in severe weather.

Angel flies home

A shepherd dog that jumped from a semi during a delivery was trapped, then transported by Pilots N Paws and volunteers so she could return to her owner.

Clara the Corgi runaway

A recently adopted corgi escaped from her harness, and a combination of sightings, traps, trail cameras, and neighbor help led to her recovery.

Wonderful page!! So many lost pets have been reunited with their families that probably wouldn't have been before this page was started. It also unites pet lovers all over the Omaha area. They've managed to obtain an army of people who keep an eye out for lost pets. And have increased awareness of wandering animals. Enabling people to bring attention to those wandering pets. — Paul J
Amazing group of people with the kindest hearts! So many have reached out and ventured out into the blistering cold to help search for my lost Shiba Inu, Nya. After 5 long hours of searching in the cold, she was found and brought home safe! Thank you all! — Kayla M
