Friends of the Children - Houston pairs children facing multiple systemic obstacles with a paid professional mentor, called a Friend, and stays in that relationship for 12+ years. That means support in school, at home, and in the community, all the way through high school graduation. The result is the kind of steady presence that can change a child’s path over time.
What sets this chapter apart is the length and structure of the mentoring. Each child is matched with a paid professional Friend, not a short-term volunteer, and the organization stays in the relationship for 12+ years, no matter what.

Our story
Friends of the Children - Houston is part of a national network of chapters and was founded in 2018. The chapter brings the Friends model to Houston, pairing children facing multiple systemic obstacles with paid professional mentors and committing to each child for 12+ years, no matter what.
