About Presbyterian Medical Care Mission
For low-income and uninsured adults ages 18 to 64 in the Abilene area, an affordable doctor’s visit can be difficult to find. Presbyterian Medical Care Mission provides ongoing primary medical care in a Christian setting, then helps qualifying patients reach prescription assistance and additional services such as diabetic education, nutrition counseling, physical therapy, and pulmonary screening. The Mission has provided primary health care to more than 5,500 low-income uninsured individuals and fills more than 400 prescriptions for patients each month.
The Mission centers care around an ongoing family doctor relationship, rather than a single visit, and qualifying patients may receive a three-month supply of some medications for a nominal fee. Patients can also access volunteer physician specialists, including endocrinology and rheumatology, who periodically provide services.
