Overview

About Pride Chorus Houston

Pride Chorus Houston gives LGBTQ+ people in Houston a place to make music in public, not just in private. Its concerts move through Pride Month, the holidays, and special programs, so the choir is always finding a new way to put pride, unity, and inclusion onstage. If you care about a community space that turns singing into shared visibility, this is the kind of chorus that makes that feel real.

What sets Pride Chorus Houston apart is how specific its welcome is. Adult singers of all skill levels can audition for an inclusive SATB chorus, then rehearse and perform in a space built for LGBTQ+ community participation. Its reach also goes beyond Houston through cross-cultural work with Coro Gay Ciudad de México, including Mi Familia in Houston and Mexico City.

Origin

Our story

Pride Chorus Houston began in November 1979 as the Montrose Singers, led by founding director Andy Mills. It started as a Houston-based men's chorus and built an early following with productions at the Tower Theatre. Over time, it became the Gay Men's Chorus of Houston, expanded to include the Bayou City Women’s Chorus under Bayou City Performing Arts, and now performs as Pride Chorus Houston.
