Houston Pets Alive
About Houston Pets Alive
At Houston Pets Alive, the work starts with cats and dogs in Greater Houston shelters who need help now, then keeps going until they land in loving homes. The organization also shows up for people, with foster support, adoption counseling, low-cost pet care, and help for pet owners who are stretched thin. If you care about keeping animals out of the worst outcomes and giving shelters more breathing room, this is the kind of local work that pays off in real time.
What stands out here is the range, but the point is practical, not flashy. Houston Pets Alive pulls animals from shelters, supports foster homes, helps adoption day run better, and offers the kind of services, pantry, community store, vaccine and microchip clinics, spay and neuter care, that make it easier for pets to stay healthy and stay housed.

Our story
Houston Pets Alive started in 2014 as a small foster-based rescue focused on animals in need. In 2017, the group stepped into Houston’s Hurricane Harvey response, rescuing thousands of displaced animals and opening its first physical location. It then grew quickly, moved to a larger facility on Antoine Drive, and expanded its mission to meet rising stray intake, adoption returns, and shelter resource shortages with training, education, program development, and operational support.
Need help?
How someone in need can access Houston Pets Alive’s services.
Pet owners can use the pet pantry by registering before arriving, and low-cost care is available by appointment on Wednesdays. The organization also provides resources for responsibly rehoming a pet and directs people to local shelter intake options, but it does not accept owner surrenders, found animals, stray animals, or other pets directly from the public.
