Overview

About Indonesian Diaspora Network Austin

Sometimes the most meaningful community work starts with a simple need, a place where people can connect, support one another, and keep cultural traditions close. Indonesian Diaspora Network Austin does that for the Indonesian community in Austin and surrounding areas through events, partnerships, and social and professional networks. If you care about keeping a community visible, connected, and welcomed, this is the kind of organization that makes that possible.

IDN Austin stands out because it is as much about gathering people as it is about celebrating culture. With events like CelebrAsia, Indonesian Independence Day celebrations, networking, social gatherings, and a community directory, it gives Indonesian expatriates, students, professionals, and others connected to Indonesian culture a real place to plug in.

Origin

Our story

In early 2013, a group of Indonesian expatriates and immigrants in Austin saw a need for a platform that could connect, support, and empower the local Indonesian community. They were inspired by the global Indonesian Diaspora Network movement that began with the first Congress of Indonesian Diaspora in Los Angeles in July 2012, and IDN Austin was officially formed in March 2013.
