What you’re funding

As a country ravaged by the devastation of a continuing war, Ukraine continues to witness the catastrophic effects on her citizens and particularly her children.

The Ukraine crisis has displaced more than 6.5 million people since February 24, 2022.

Sadly, these numbers are increasing by the day, as are the needs of children with disabilities. Dropping everything they owned, desperately trying to escape the constant barrage from artillery fire and missiles, families left their homes and their belongs. Many children are without their wheelchairs and other mobility devices.

To add to the already horrific situation Human Rights Watch is reporting that Russian forces are using banned antipersonnel mines across contested territories. Because of other conflicts around the world, we know that these devices create havoc causing death or maiming their victims. The need for wheelchairs is only going to increase.

Working with partners in Ukraine and surrounding countries, ROC Wheels feels called to provide wheelchairs for these children, and in so doing share the hope of Christ with their families. Our goal is to provide wheelchairs for children identified as having a need.

Overview

About Roc Wheels

Roc Wheels makes something concrete and deeply personal: wheelchairs and gait trainers sized for children who need them. Based in Bozeman, the organization brings together volunteers, youth groups, veteran teams, and in-country partners to get those devices to children in less-resourced communities around the world, then stay involved through local follow-up care. If you want to support work that is hands-on, specific, and tied to a child’s daily mobility, this is that kind of giving.

What sets Roc Wheels apart is the care that happens before and after delivery. The chairs are custom-fit, the distribution trips involve volunteer teams, and local physical therapists are trained to help with fitting and follow-up support. It also gives Bozeman volunteers, including youth and veterans, a real place to plug into international service.

Stories

Osmar receives a wheelchair that helps his family

Osmar’s mother said the wheelchair would help his posture and allow him to go out with his family without being carried. The distribution gave him a first chance to move more freely with his parents.

The wheelchair means Osmar can now go out with them, and they won’t have to carry him.

Oscar gets a chair fitted to his body

Oscar often had to lie on the ground and be carried when his family took him places. After the fitting, his father said the chair would make daily life easier and help him be more comfortable.

It fits him! It’ll be easier to take him places. He will eat more and grow!

Valentina’s family finds relief through mobility

Valentina’s mother shared that the chair would comfort her body, help her go outside and play, and reduce stress for the family as they care for her.

The chair will comfort her body. She will be able to go outside and play. It will be less stressful, and she can enjoy life more.
For the community

Need help?

Children are identified through in-country partners. ROC Wheels then sends volunteer teams to fit wheelchairs and gait trainers, trains local physical therapists, and the local partner provides follow-up support as the child grows.
