About Sandys Haven Inc
At Sandy’s Haven, an injured wild animal can be treated, an animal that can’t be released can stay, and a veterinary technician student can get hands-on experience with large and exotic animals. That mix gives donors a clear reason to care: the work helps animals now, and it also teaches the people who will care for them next. It also opens the door for animal-assisted activities and public encounters that bring animals and people together in a real, practical way.
What sets Sandy’s Haven apart is the range of care it holds under one roof. It rescues and rehabilitates wildlife, provides zoological education, and offers animal-assisted activities, while also giving permanent homes to animals that cannot be released. On top of that, it supports veterinary technician training with direct experience around large and exotic animals.

Our story
Sandy’s Haven takes its name from Susan’s mother, Sandy, who passed along a deep love for animals and the belief that there is no such thing as a lost cause. What started with therapy animals shared with children facing serious illness grew into a nonprofit sanctuary and wildlife rehabilitation center centered on education, recovery, and the benefits of human-animal bonding.
Need help?
How someone in need can access Sandys Haven Inc’s services.
If someone finds a baby animal on the ground, Sandy’s Haven advises calling a licensed wildlife rehabilitator first. For a warm, uninjured baby squirrel, place it in a small box with a warm, not hot, heat source and give the mother time to retrieve it. For owlets, do not give food or water, and a professional can help determine whether renesting is possible.
